Introduction to Technical Analysis 📊

Technical analysis is the skill of reading price movement on a chart. Instead of guessing, you learn to study what the market is showing you.

🕯️
Candlesticks

See buyer and seller behaviour.

📈
Trends

Understand market direction.

🎯
Key Levels

Find areas where price may react.

What Technical Analysis Really Means

Technical analysis is not about magic signals or predicting the future perfectly.

It is about looking at a chart and asking better questions:

Instead of only asking:

What is happening in the economy?

Technical analysis asks:

✅ What is price doing right now?

✅ Where has price reacted before?

✅ Are buyers or sellers in control?

The goal is to use charts to understand market behaviour before you risk money.

What Technical Analysis Looks At

Technical analysis focuses on different pieces of chart information.

Price Movement

How price moves up, down, or sideways over time.

Candlesticks

Visual candles that show open, high, low, and close prices.

Support & Resistance

Areas where price has reacted before and may react again.

Market Structure

The pattern of highs and lows that shows trend direction.

You are not looking for random lines on a chart.
You are looking for clues that show what buyers and sellers are doing.

Candlestick Example: Price Reacting at Support

Candlestick Example

Price reacting at a key level

Demo example

In this example, price keeps reacting around the same support zone. A trader may mark that area and watch how price behaves the next time it returns.

Support zone

Long lower wicks near support can show buyers reacting.

Why Traders Use Technical Analysis

Traders use technical analysis because price often reacts around important areas.

For example, price may:

✅ Bounce from the same level more than once

✅ Break above an important level

✅ Reject a price area strongly

✅ Trend upward, downward, or move sideways

Technical analysis helps you notice these behaviours before making a trading decision.

Price Action

Price action means reading the market mainly through price movement.

A price action trader studies:

Candlesticks Highs and lows Support Resistance Breakouts Pullbacks

Price action is one of the most important skills because most indicators are based on price anyway.

If you can read price clearly, your chart becomes easier to understand.

Market Structure

Market structure shows whether price is trending or ranging.

📈

Uptrend

Price often forms higher highs and higher lows.

Higher Highs
Higher Lows

📉

Downtrend

Price often forms lower highs and lower lows.

Lower Highs
Lower Lows

↔️

Range

Price moves sideways between a high area and a low area.

Support Zone
Resistance Zone

Higher highs & lows

In an uptrend, price often forms higher lows and higher highs. This shows buyers are generally gaining control.

Price keeps pushing upward: higher lows and higher highs.

Technical Analysis Is Not Prediction

A common beginner mistake is thinking technical analysis predicts the future perfectly.

It does not.

Technical analysis helps you build a trading idea based on probability.

Better Trader Mindset 🧠

If price does this, I may consider that.

If price does not confirm, I stay out.

If the trade is wrong, I manage risk.

Good traders prepare scenarios instead of guessing.

Clean Charts Matter

Beginners often add too many indicators, lines, arrows, colours, and signals.

That usually creates confusion.

Start simple:

❌ Messy Chart

Too many indicators, too many lines, and no clear plan.

✅ Clean Chart

Candlesticks, support and resistance, trend direction, and one or two useful tools.

A clean chart helps you think clearly.

Beginner Example

Imagine EUR/USD has bounced from the same price area three times.

That area may be acting as support.

A technical trader may watch that level and ask:

Trader Checklist ✅

The trader still does not know the future.

They are reading clues and managing risk.

Mini Practice

Try This on a Demo Chart 🧪

Open a demo chart and choose one pair, such as EUR/USD or GBP/USD. Do not place a trade yet. Just observe.

Step 1

Find the latest high and latest low.

Step 2

Mark one support area and one resistance area.

Step 3

Check if price is trending or ranging.

Step 4

Write down what you see in one sentence.

Quick Self-Check

Before moving on, answer this:

What does technical analysis study?

It studies price movement on a chart.

Does technical analysis predict the future perfectly?

No. It helps traders build ideas based on probability, not certainty.

What is better for beginners: a clean chart or a chart full of indicators?

A clean chart. Too many indicators can create confusion.
